Dates and figs are fairly “new fruits” I’ve started eating and cooking with over the last few years. They are both quite healthy so that’s a great reason in itself for me to be learning more about them.
Here’s the thing though, I only like figs dried which works out just fine since I’m a huge fan of dried fruit! In fact, our freezers are full of bags of dried plums, pears, peaches, figs, and cherries.
This recipe is a fun way to use dried dates, figs, and or apricots. I have also made these with a couple of handfuls of mini semi-sweet chocolate chips…dark chocolate and dried fruit is a delicious combination.
Energy bites are great before workouts for a quick energy boost or as a mid-morning or afternoon pick-me-up. Kids will love them for an after school snack.
The combination of healthy ingredients will provide you with fiber, protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates for the energy you need.
What about using different dried fruits?
Try mixing up the recipe with different dried fruits and kinds of nut butter. I had a bag of dried figs, dates, and apricots so I decided to combine all three and made a double batch.
