Homemade Achiote Paste

Homemade Achiote paste is a popular ingredient in many Mexican dishes, such as Arroz Con Pollo and my favorite, Pollo Asado. You can either purchase this paste or make it from scratch. It’s simple to make and takes about 5 minutes.

Achiote paste can be frozen in silicone ice cube trays or freezer containers in the portions used in your recipes.

Achiote paste adds a sweet pepper flavor to the following:

  • Marinades and rubs
  • Soups and stews
  • As a flavoring for rice

I used achiote paste in my Pollo Asado marinade recipe. It turned out beautifully and was very similar to my favorite restaurant.

I used my indoor grill and served it with grilled peppers and onions, refried beans, Mexican rice, regular and gluten-free tortillas, and guacamole. This meal was a huge hit at our house!

Leftover seasoned chicken can be frozen for a quick meal later, or you can eat it for the next two days, like we did.

Enjoy!
