- 5.6 ounce Mini ~ or 22 regular-sized marshmallows ~ gluten and/or dairy-free if needed.
- 3 Cups Crispy rice cereal ~ gluten-free if needed.
- 2 + 1/2 tbsp Butter ~ or a dairy-free option
- 1/8 tsp Vanilla extract
- 2-3 tbsp Peanut butter ~ optional Sunflower seed butter for peanut free
- 2 tbsp Crushed dehydrated strawberries ~ optional
- 3 tbsp Chocolate chips for drizzle ~ optional
Prepare an 8"x8" square pan by coating the bottom and sides with butter or peanut butter. Use butter if you are making strawberry flavored krispie treats.
Measure the cereal and place it aside.
In a large saucepan, add butter and marshmallows. Heat at a low heat, stirring constantly while the mixture melts and fully combines. If you are adding peanut butter, stir that in when the marshmallows are almost completely melted. Do not add peanut butter if you are making the strawberry option.
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
If you are making strawberry treats, stir in the crushed strawberries.
Quickly stir in the cereal to coat all the pieces. The mixture firms up fast, so hurry along as best you can.
Press mixture firmly into the prepared pan. It helps to use some butter on the spatula or your hands.
Melt chocolate chips and drizzle over krispie treats ~ optional
Cool and cut into squares to serve.
